Two Cars Drive Through Breonna Taylor Protesters In Hollywood
One person was taken to the hospital after being struck by a large SUV.
HOLLYWOOD, CA — Two separate cars attempted to drive through a crowd of people who were protesting the shooting death of Breonna Taylor in Hollywood last night. Footage of the hit-and-run shows a large SUV striking a pedestrian protester holding a sign, eventually speeding off as the person slides across the ground.
The demonstration started around 7 p.m. when protesters gathered at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Santa Monica Boulevard. A series of speakers addressed the crowd, and the group eventually began marching down Sunset Boulevard with signs in hand.
Around 9 p.m., the black SUV began nearing the crowd while driving against the flow of traffic. The car eventually speeds up and rams into a protester, causing a group of onlookers to run up to and hit the car before it drives off.

The demonstrator was taken to the hospital for treatment, and her condition was unknown. The Los Angeles Police Department detained the driver who struck the pedestrian, but later released him. According to the LA Times, the driver claimed protesters attacked his car first.
The LAPD released a statement saying an "investigation is continuing."

Elsewhere on Sunset Boulevard, a white Prius attempted to inch through a crowd that had gathered in an intersection. Agitating several demonstrators, the car attempted to drive off before being corralled by two vehicles that were part of the protest. The driver eventually escaped and was later detained by police, but was also released the same night.
Protesters eventually dispersed around midnight.
The protest was the latest in a series of nationwide actions related to the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor on March 13. Despite giving her family a $12 million settlement and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron's admission that the event was a "tragedy," a Kentucky grand jury failed to directly press charges against three officers who killed Breonna Taylor. Former detective Brett Hankison was the only officer indicted for wanton endangerment after inadvertently shooting into neighboring apartments.
More actions are expected to take place across America throughout the weekend.
