Updated: LCF White Population Down, Asians, Latinos Increase
While La Cañada Flintridge has dipped in overall population, the 2010 U.S. Census figures show a shift in ethnic makeup of city.

La Cañada Flintridge dipped slightly in population in 2010 as compared to 2000, according to 2010 U.S. Census Bureau figures released Tuesday afternoon.
The ethnic makeup of the city has also changed, with the white population having decreased, and Asian American and Latino populations on the rise.
Ten years ago there were 20,318 people living in La Cañada, and in 2010 that number fell to 20,246. Statwide statistics, however, show that California’s overall population rose 10 percent from 33,871,648 in 2000 to 37,253,956 in 2010, according to the Census figures.

In La Cañada, as throughout California, one ethnic group who has increased is that of Latinos. The 2010 figures show 1,267 people identified themselves as Hispanic in La Cañada, while 10 years earlier there were 976, an increase of 29.8 percent. And while 15,142 people identified themselves as white in 2000, that number dropped to 13,959 in 2010.

* Asian Americans numbered 4,180 in 2000, and 5,214 in 2010 - an increase of 24.7 percent.
* Ten years, ago 73 people identified themselves as the single race of black or African American. That number jumped to 109 in 2010.
* In 2000, 122 people identified themselves as American Indians/Alaska natives. That number shrunk to four in 2010.
As for housing, that number totaled 6,989 in 2000 and 7,089 in 2010.
Figures for specific cities' populations are available via the Census Bureau's new American FactFinder site. However, Al Fontenot, area manger at the L.A. Regional census Center said Tuesday that the 2000 LCF data has not migrated to the FactFinder2 site. To view 2000 LCF stats, go here.
