LCHS Exit Exam Scores Still 'Outstanding'
Ninety-eight percent of La Cañada HIgh School students performed above the state and county averages on the English and mathematics sections of the California High School Exit Exams, according to a report released Wednesday.
It was another stellar report card for students - 98 percent of test takers passed their high school exit exam during the 2011-12 school year.
The state mandates all 10th-graders take the California High School Exit Exam in order to receive their high school diplomas, although those who do not pass have multiple opportunities during their junior and senior years to retake the exam.
At LCHS, of the 376 students who took the math portion of the exam, 369 passed it, according to the California Department of Education's report. In English Language Arts, 378 students tested and 372 passed - each section averaging to a passing rate of 98 percent.

Comparatively, 83 percent of students statewide passed the ELA section and 84 percent passed the math portion. In Los Angeles County, 82 percent of students passed the math portion of the CAHSEE, while 81 percent passed the ELA portion.
Lindi Dreibelbis, La Cañada Unified School District's director of assessment, research and consolidated programs, told the La Cañada Valley Sun that students historically have a 98% pass rate.
“La Cañada's CAHSEE performance has always been outstanding,” Dreibelbis told the paper.
