Updated: Power Outage Darkens LCHS During Finals

Updated 2 p.m.: Monday's power outage in La Cañada affected almost 1,400 customers, according to a spokesman from Southern California Edison.

As of 1:15 p.m. only 77 customers remained without power, said Darryl Ryan, noting the electric company still does not know what caused the service interruption at 11:03 a.m. Initially, 1,388 people were affected, he said. 

The bulk of customers lost power for 29 minutes, he said. 

The impacted areas were Angeles Crest Highway to the north, Devil's Gate to the east, Berkshire Place to the south and La Cañada Boulevard to the west.

"They're still working on it,'' Ryan said of the outage.

Earlier:  suffered a short power outage Monday, disrupting finals and sending classes outside. 

One student called it "scary,'' but said the teachers moved people outside to finish up the class. She deemed the outage, which occurred just after 11 a.m,  to have lasted about 20 minutes. 

A represenative from Southern California Edison said he would research the matter and call back. According to the SoCal Edison website, 826 La Cañada customers were affected. 

After studying for exams Monday, the whole incident was a little startling, LCHS sophomore Alessandra Koepen told Patch via email.

"It was just scary cuz [sic] we were all taking finals, and then the whole school's power goes out and classes moved to outside,'' she wrote, adding everything was back to bright after a short bit.
