Library Celebrates Centennial in Rededication Ceremony

The La Canada Flintridge branch is the second oldest library in Los Angeles County.

The La Canada Flintridge Public Library will celebrate its centennial in a library rededication today Saturday, May 11 at noon.

The event will include performances by Native American dancers and activities for children. Refreshments will be served.

The library was one of the first branches in Los Angeles County to lend books to residents. The library opened its doors May 23, 1913 starting out with a modest collection of 71 books, according to the La Canada Valley Sun.

Today, the library boasts a collection of 75,000 items.

The library is the second oldest library in Los Angeles County and was established before La Canada Flintridge was incorporated in 1976.
