Los Altos Auxiliary Thanks La Canada’s store, The Apple Cart
The Apple Cart again shows its compassion with $1,000 donation to help foster youth through Los Altos Auxiliary for Sycamores

“Peggy Stevens is a remarkable business owner whose compassion for the community is legendary and we are honored to have earned her support,” Cindy Bengtson, President of Los Altos Auxiliary for Sycamores stated. “Through a very fun shopping day at The Apple Cart, Peggy donated $1,000 to our work with foster youth at Sycamores’ El Nido residential campus in Altadena.”
Los Altos Auxiliary members and the public came out in large numbers to support Los Altos Auxiliary by buying the perfect Holiday gifts for family and friends.
For 65 years, members of Los Altos have provided care, compassion, and hope for youth residing at the El Nido residential campus in Altadena and young adults transitioning out of the foster care system. Often, survivors of trauma and multiple foster home placements, the youth at the El Nido campus receive customized educational and mental health services in a peaceful, spacious environment that encourages healing and growth. The professional staff provides therapeutic care while Los Altos funds capital improvements, educational programs, and social enrichment activities. The goal is to stabilize mental health symptoms and provide the tools necessary to live successfully within their family and community.

Los Altos' financial donations have funded large-scale campus additions, including a library, computer lab, silk-screening business, and an art center. Facility improvements include remodeled bathrooms, landscaping, and an outdoor entertainment area.
The highlight for members are the personal touches of kindness and compassion they provide throughout the year, including birthday cupcake delivery, ice cream socials, snow days, movie nights, field trips, extracurricular activities, personally selected holiday gifts from each child’s wish list, no-sew fleece blankets, pet therapy, cooking classes and more. Holidays can be heartbreaking and lonely for the youth served, so they celebrate each holiday with personal visits, treats, activities, and gifts.
