The second annual Senior Healthy Living Expo brought in a large number of seniors on Saturday at the YMCA of the Foothills in La Cañada Flintridge.
The expo featured many free services for senior citizens including medical checks, massages, and medical screenings. Senior citizens were also given a free lunch and more information from local business that offer services to the elderly.

According to Patty Prange from Tender Hearts Care, this expo was first created last year by her and a committee.
“Last year we decided that the seniors needed to have more info on companies of integrity that work with seniors, “ said Prange. “So the committee got together with an attorney and a financial planner and we created, last year, the Senior Healthy Living Expo.”

According to Prange, the expo this year has doubled in seniors attending and businesses participating. When it comes to selecting businesses, Prange said that they make sure that businesses they work with have “a good reputation and businesses we know will provide good services to seniors.”
According to senior resident Trudy Lousen, the expo this year has brought in services that she believes to be of great help and interest to her.
“Its wonderful, I would recommend it to anybody who is a senior,” Lousen said. “It is a wonderful health checkup. We had our blood pressure, weight and height checked. The lady said I’m in such good health. I sure would come back next year.”
Some of the business owners that participated, including Toni Williamson of Mountview Senior Living Community, said that this expo allows them to further promote their services and, at the same time, help seniors in the community.
Chris Peaslee, who was only visiting La Cañada at the time of the expo, brought her parents to the expo after her father, Clyde Hemphill, found out about it through a friend.
Clyde Hemphill and his wife came to the expo for the first time and enjoyed the services offered. Hemphill said that the free service he enjoyed the most was the free massages.
“We’re getting in line for everything,” Hemphill said. “We want to do the balance equilibrium test too. I see a lot of people I know here, I would definitely come back here next year.”
