Photo Gallery: PCR Kids Create Lightning, Invisible Ink

Budding scientists tout their experiments at the Palm Crest Elementary Science Fair.

Palm Crest Elementary's recent science fair proved to be an "explosive,'' "eggs"traordinary, hair raising event! With more than 70 participants, families and guests were treated to some captivating, smelly presentations in the school's multi-purpose room March 9. 

Projects included:

• Menthos Massacre - an experiment that tested how high different types of cola would explode when two menthos candies were dropped inside.

• The Chicken or the Egg? First-grader Hannah discovered how a chicken egg is formed.

• 3-D Shapes - First-grader Lily created 3-D shapes from spaghetti pasta and marshmellows.

• UV Radiation and the Sun - Second-grader Josiah found the answer to his question - Does it matter what brand of sunscreen you use?

• Invisible Ink - Sixth graders Reagan & Naomi  found that lemon juice can be used as invisible ink and decoded by adding heat (from their toaster).

• Trebuchet - Brian built his own "Trebuchet":  he was able to catapult objects into the air.

• Lightning - Micheal and Garret created their own shocking experiement by rubbing a block of styrofoam and placing a tin plate on the styrofoam  - voila! Lightning.
