Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Gavin, who suffered a stroke in his mother's womb, received the first-ever, self-named Gavin Award from Glendale Adventist Medical Center. He raised $15,000 over three years to fund stroke services and bring awareness to stroke. The Gavin Award will be given to individuals who raise more than $5,000 for the Glendale News Press Downtown Dash, an annual 5K run/walk that raises awareness and funds for stroke services. This year, 130 families donated more than $5,000 on behalf of Gavin.
Gavin still receives physical therapy at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, said GAMC spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez. As the first Advanced Primary Stroke Center in the San Fernando Valley, Glendale Adventist Medical Center is specially equipped to treat stroke patients quickly. The hospital's team of specialists cover all aspects of a stroke, from the initial diagnosis to treatment to rehabilitation and recovery.
