Thursday May Be the Hottest of the Year

With a heat wave rolling through, the National Weather Service, which issued a hazardous weather outlook, is predicting today to be the hottest of the year.

No, an egg's not going to cook on a La Cañada sidewalk, but temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s, today and Friday are expected to be the hottest days of this week's heat wave, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather agency issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern California, with temperatures predicted to hit between 103 and 105 degrees in Woodland Hills and Saugus, said weather specialist Stuart Seto.

“Set a pack of ice in front of a fan,’’ he said.

For San Gabriel Valley and the Angeles National Forest, there’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms rolling in late Friday, he said, adding there’s a high-pressure system reaching out to California from Arizona and New Mexico.

A gradual cooling trend should begin Sunday, with temperatures dipping a few degrees and possibly dropping into the 80s by the middle of next week.

“It’s going to be hot all week,’’ he said.
