Alleged Shoplifter Arrested at LCF Market

Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Glendale woman Monday on suspicion of stealing food, just three days after a similar arrest in Glendale.

Just three days after her alleged theft at a Glendale grocery store, a woman was arrested in La Cañada on suspicion of burglary shoplifting.

Deputies arrested Hyun Kwon, 20, of Glendale on Monday after someone stole yams and a jar of curry sauce from 2135 Foothill Blvd., said Sgt. Ray Harley.

It appeared Kwon entered the Korean market with the intent to steal, Harley said, noting the woman allegedly had a history of walking out of the store without paying for items. In the past, the owners considered the loss so minor as to not alert authorities, but on Monday the owner was able to detain Kwon until deputies arrived, he said.

On March 26, Glendale Police arrested Kwon on suspicion of burglary after she allegedly stole milk, cream, avocados, chips and cookies from 561 N. Glendale Ave., said Tom Lorenz, public information officer.

“These are food products, not beer or something easy to pawn or sell for cash,’’ Lorenz said, noting Kwon admitted previous incidents of shoplifting food to police.

Deputies of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are invesitgting why Kwon would habitually steal small food items, Harley said.

Kwon has been released on bond.
