Laguna Niguel School Briefly Ordered To Shelter-In-Place: Police

The shelter in place order for Hidden Hills Elementary School was related to a nearby barricade incident, authorities said.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — Students and staff members at Hidden Hills Elementary School in Laguna Niguel had to shelter in place Tuesday morning while sheriff's deputies dealt with an incident nearby.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to an incident around 10:50 a.m. involving a person who had barricaded themselves inside a building near Hidden Hills Road and Tessier Street, less than a quarter-mile from the school, the law enforcement agency said.

The incident caused the elementary school to issue a shelter-in-place-order.

Authorities were able to "successfully de-escalate the incident" several minutes later and took one person into custody, the sheriff's department said.

The shelter-in-place order was soon lifted after.
