Rail Service Through South OC Shut Down For Emergency Work

Passenger rail service through San Clemente will be suspended for six weeks starting Friday, May 2, OC Supervisor Katrina Foley said.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Be aware, commuters — Metrolink and Amtrak passenger rail service through San Clemente is once again suspended starting Friday, May 2, as crews begin emergency efforts to stabilize the eroding hillside.

The work, which is scheduled to last six weeks, will work to stabilize sections of the railroad threatened by landslides and erosion.

According to Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley, 540,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed to stabilize bluffs and restore beaches while the work takes place.

In addition, the work will include the construction of a 1,400-foot debris catchment wall.
