936 DUI Arrests, 40 Killed In CA During New Year's Eve Weekend
The number of people killed was a 38 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
CALIFORNIA -- More than 900 people were arrested and 40 people were killed on California's highways during New Year's Eve weekend. The California Highway Patrol on Tuesday said the number of people killed between 6:01 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday was a 38 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The number of DUI arrests, 936, was a 22 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the CHP said.
Of the 40 people who were killed on the road, 13 people were not wearing their seat belts, the CHP said.

During Christmas weekend, a total of 917 people were arrested for drunken driving while 27 people were killed.
