Brush Fire Breaks Out In Jurupa Valley, Evacuation Warnings Issued

The Pyrite fire was reported just after 5 p.m. near the intersection of State Route 60 and Pyrite Street.

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — A brush fire broke out in Jurupa Valley Friday evening amid hot weather and dry winds.

The blaze, dubbed the Pyrite Fire, was originally reported at 5:19 p.m. near Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive, near the 60 Freeway in Riverside County. By 7:19 p.m., the fire had expanded to 150 acres, according to CalFire.

Fire officials said the fire was burning in "light flashy fuels" and initially thought to be 15 acres before expanding, ABC 7 reported.

The fire triggered evacuation warnings in the area, according to officials.

A large smoke plume from the fire could be seen from as far away as Redlands.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
