Brush Fire Halted Near Lake Mathews, 1 Acre Scorched

The smoke appeared from the blaze just before 11 a.m. near Cajalco Road.

LAKE MATHEWS, CA — A brush fire that erupted Wednesday just west of Lake Mathews scorched less than an acre before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 10:57 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Cajalco Road and La Sierra Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews from the county and Corona Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate on a hillside.

No homes or other structures were threatened, and no road closures were required.

A Cal Fire air tanker was requested to make one run on the brusher, enabling crews to establish containment lines, according to reports from the scene.

Firefighters were expected to complete mopping up before 2 p.m.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
