Captain Of Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station Retiring Sept. 3, New Leader Named

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — After three years leading the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station, Captain James Rayls is retiring, it was announced Tuesday.

His last day will be Sept. 3, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez.

Rayls has served with the sheriff's department since 1996.

In a Facebook message posted Tuesday, the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station shared, "Today we honor Captain Rayls of the Lake Elsinore Station as he retires after 29 years of service with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (1996–2025).

"Thank you Sir, for your leadership, support, and dedication over the last three years as our Captain. You’ve left an incredible mark on this department, and you will truly be missed. Wishing you nothing but happiness in this next chapter—enjoy your well-earned retirement!"

A new leader for the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station has been appointed. Captain Marcus Boydd, who currently serves as Captain of the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau, will take the helm, Brito-Gonzalez said.

Boydd has served with the sheriff's department for 26 years and was promoted to captain in November 2022, according to Lt. Deirdre Vickers.
