9-Year-Old Boy Who Drowned In Lake Elsinore Identified By Coroner

A boy drowned in Lake Elsinore over the weekend, and a second child had to be rescued by a bystander, authorities said.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Authorities have identified a 9-year-old Palmdale boy who drowned in Lake Elsinore over the weekend.

A Riverside County Sheriff's Department dive team recovered the body of Dante Clark around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The search for Clark began around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after deputies were called for a drowning at the lake's Launch Pointe Beach. Deputies were told several children were playing near the beach's docks when two began having trouble swimming, the sheriff's department said.

A bystander brought one child ashore. Clark went underwater and didn't resurface.

The condition of the second child was not immediately known.

Family members saw the boy struggling in the water and tried to help him before he went under, KCBS-TV reported.

Bystanders and the sheriff's dive team searched the lake area where Clark was last seen. His body was found four hours later.
