Clinton Keith Road Widening Still Months From Construction, Wildomar Says
City officials say the long-anticipated project remains in design, right-of-way and permitting phases, with no construction start date yet.
WILDOMAR, CA — The long-planned effort to widen a key stretch of Clinton Keith Road in Wildomar is still months away from breaking ground, as the project remains in several pre-construction phases that must be completed before work can begin, city officials told Patch this week.
The Clinton Keith Road Widening Project — covering the segment between Hidden Springs Road and Copper Craft Drive — will expand the corridor to six lanes, add bike lanes and fully rehabilitate the existing pavement, according to the city. Officials said the upgrades are designed to improve traffic flow along one of the region’s most important east-west routes.
Despite some public reports suggesting the project is nearing construction, the city clarified that the work is still in the design, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination and environmental permitting phases. The design is close to completion, but the remaining components are still underway.

“These steps require review and approvals from external agencies and private parties, which means the City does not have full control over their duration,” the city wrote in a statement. “We continue to work actively with all partners to move these phases forward.”
Because those processes must be finalized before construction can start, Wildomar said it does not yet have an official construction start date available.

The city is leading the capital improvement project, though part of the construction funding is being supported by a grant awarded through the Riverside County Transportation Commission.
Once built, the widened roadway is expected to ease congestion for drivers in Wildomar, Murrieta and the surrounding communities, particularly during peak commuting hours. City officials did not signal any new or worsening traffic impacts during the current phase.
