Gas Station Carjacking Leaves Senior Citizen Dead In Norco: Report

NORCO, CA — A motorist was killed Monday during an apparent carjacking in Norco.

The incident was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Hidden Valley Parkway.

According to Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, a caller reported witnessing a male enter the vehicle's driver's seat, then driving away.

The caller reported that the vehicle owner was partially inside the vehicle's back seat when the alleged carjacking occurred. The male victim was dragged before being ejected.

The victim was sent to a local hospital but died from his injuries. His identity was not released pending notification of next of kin.

KCAL News reported that the victim was a 78-year-old man who was trying to stop his vehicle from being stolen.

The victim was at a car wash near the Arco gas station at 675 Hidden Valley Parkway. He was vacuuming the rear of his car when the suspect jumped into the driver's seat and took off, according to the news outlet.

The stolen vehicle was eventually found, "and the person believed to have been involved is currently detained." Brito-Gonzalez said. "This investigation is active and ongoing. No additional details are available at this time."
