LAKE ELSINORE, CA — If you have expired or unused medications crowding your cabinet, you can safely dispose of them this weekend near Temecula.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Ralphs, at 33145 Temecula Parkway in Temecula
  • Corona Police Department, at 730 Public Safety Way, in Corona
  • San Juan Capistrano Police Services at 32506 Paseo Adelanto in San Juan Capistrano

"Bring your over-the-counter and prescription medications—no questions asked," the Southwest Sheriff's Station said.

The DEA's search tool, which will be updated closer to Saturday, will show collection sites near you. Residents can also find year-round disposal options at thousands of pharmacies, hospitals, and police departments.

While preparing all your unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications for disposal, the DEA recommends removing or blacking out any personal information on the bottle or container to protect your privacy. Medication should be in a container, such as the original bottle or a sealed bag.

In addition to pills and capsules, some sites accept other forms of medication and vaping devices, according to the DEA site. Check with your local collection site for specifics.

It's important to note that illegal drugs, syringes and sharps will not be collected at this event.
