UPDATED: Motorcyclist Killed After Crashing into Brick Mailbox in Lake Elsinore

A motorcyclist was killed in Lake Elsinore after losing control and crashing into a brick mailbox, a police sergeant said today.

Lafayette Coons III, 32, of San Jacinto, was identified today as the motorcyclist killed in the crash on Sunday.
It happened at 7:09 p.m. on Machado Street near Lincoln Street, according to Lake Elsinore police Sgt. Nathan Kaas.

“The preliminary investigation revealed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed lost control, for unknown reasons, striking a brick mailbox,” Kaas said.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, the sergeant said. There were no passengers.
The investigation was ongoing, Kaas said.
