Nearly 100 Acres Burn Over The Weekend Between Redlands, Moreno Valley, Now 100% Contained

The Smiley Fire, burning in San Bernardino County near the border with Riverside County, has been fully contained.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — The Smiley Fire, which ignited over the weekend, has been fully contained, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported Monday morning.

On Saturday, firefighters rushed to the blaze that began near San Timoteo Canyon and Smiley Roads between Redlands and Moreno Valley. The wildfire, whose cause remains under investigation, was worked under a unified command by Cal Fire/San Bernardino County Fire Department, Redlands Fire Department and the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Over the weekend, about 100 personnel, including 10 engines, two water tenders, two helicopters, and two hand crews, worked the blaze, nicknamed the Smiley Fire. By Monday morning, no smoke was showing from the fully contained blaze.

The blaze began as a 15-acre vegetation fire burning between San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire spokesperson said.

"The forward rate of spread has been stopped as of Monday morning," they said. "Firefighters will be on scene for several hours working on containment and full control of the fire."
