Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit On Ramona Expressway
The victim was hit by a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, the sheriff's department said.

PERRIS, CA — A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Monday night in an intersection along the Ramona Expressway did not survive, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed.
The victim, 44-year-old Kenneth Woods of Moreno Valley, was hit at 6:38 p.m. at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and North Perris Boulevard in Perris, according to the coroner's office.
When sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, they found Woods unresponsive in eastbound Expressway lanes. The victim, who was suffering from major injuries, was sent to Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, where he died about three hours later, according to the sheriff's department and coroner's office.

A preliminary sheriff's department investigation showed the SUV was heading east on the Ramona Expressway. As the vehicle crossed through the North Perris Boulevard intersection, Woods was crossing the street and was hit.
The intersection is signalized, though it's unclear what color the traffic lights and pedestrian signals were at the time of the crash.

According to the sheriff's department, the SUV driver remained at the crash scene and cooperated with the law traffic investigation. The driver's identity was not released, and an arrest was not reported.
The law enforcement agency confirmed that drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to have been crash factors.
During the crash investigation, Ramona Expressway — between North Perris Boulevard and Ramona Crossings — was temporarily closed.
