Pyrite Fire In Jurupa Valley Mapped At 550 Acres, 20% Contained

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — Containment of the Pyrite Fire, which burned just over 550 acres in mountainous terrain in Jurupa Valley and briefly prompted evacuation orders followed by warnings, has grown to 20% and all remaining evacuation warnings were lifted, officials said Sunday.

That announcement was made by Riverside County Fire Department officials at 5:12 p.m. Sunday as firefighters continued to build containment lines and patrolled for hot spots.

Firefighters responded at approximately 5:20 p.m. Friday near Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive to reports of a brush fire that initially consumed about 15 acres of vegetation, according to Cal Fire.

There were nearly 300 firefighters on the scene, including eight hand crews. They were aided by water drops from two helicopters.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
