Riverside County Residents 'Powerless' Against Scattered Outages Amid Line Upgrades: SCE

Residents living in some Public Safety Power Shutoff areas report experiencing frequent electricity shutdowns as the utility upgrades lines.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Power Safety Shutoffs are a new way of life for Southern California residents. Still, as numerous power shutoffs are plaguing Lake Elsinore homes and businesses due to "equipment upgrades," SoCal Edison says this is all part of ongoing wildfire mitigation work.

This work replaces bare electrical wires with "covered" conductors in high fire-risk areas, ABCNews reports. While a tool in reducing the number of power safety shutoffs, residents are still dealing with the consequences of being without power for hours in the heat of summer.

Use the SoCal Edison Outage Map to see if one of these scheduled outages affects you.

This week, in Lakeland Village, a scheduled maintenance outage was planned for two areas from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a third area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the utility's outage map.

Other outages were planned in Temecula, Menifee and Sun City through July 30, according to the utility.
