Starbucks Rival Widens Footprint In Southwest Riverside County

The popular drive-through offers a full lineup of cold and hot coffees and teas. Some baked goods are also available.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Amid a sea of Starbucks locations, Dutch Bros Coffee is slowly making its mark in Southwest Riverside County.

Tuesday night, the Lake Elsinore City Council gave unanimous final approval on plans to build a second Dutch Bros Coffee in the city.

The single-story, 980-square-foot Dutch Bros Coffee is targeted for 16758 Lakeshore Drive. The location is inside an existing commercial center near the intersection of Riverside Drive.

The coffee shop will feature a drive-through and walk-up ordering window, but no indoor customer access or seating area. Business hours will be 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

A Dutch Bros Coffee recently opened at 32250 Mission Trail, in the same commercial center as Pins 'N Pockets bowling center.

Tuesday night's City Council signoff followed an April 15 project approval by the Lake Elsinore Planning Commission, which included an OK on Dutch Bros' conditional use permit and commercial design review.

Another Dutch Bros Coffee is planned in Temecula off Temecula Parkway, just east of Interstate 15. A proposed strip mall is slated to be built at the site, and Dutch Bros is a planned tenant. Read more: New Strip Center Planned For South Temecula, Near 15 Freeway

It's not clear how many more Dutch Bros might be coming to Southwest Riverside County, but several stores exist across the Inland Empire and California.

The company was founded in 1992 by Dane and Travis Boersma with a first location in Grants Pass, Oregon. Since that time, Dutch Bros Coffee franchises have opened in multiple states, according to the company.
