Truck Slams Into Home Along Highway 74

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A pickup truck plowed into a home along Highway 74 in Valle Vista Monday, triggering a fire that quickly spread throughout the property, which was unoccupied.

The crash was reported at 3:21 p.m. on the four-lane corridor, between Lincoln and Grant avenues, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said the Ford F-150 went out of control, veered off of the highway and straight into the single-story residence.

The fire department said multiple county engine crews, as well as personnel from the nearby Hemet Fire Department, were sent to the location and encountered the house "fully involved in flames."

The driver of the pickup, whose identity was not disclosed, was able to get out of the wreck by himself, suffering unspecified minor injuries, according to the CHP.

The agency said both sides of Route 74 were shut down by sheriff's deputies and CHP officers for public safety.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze by 4 p.m., finding no one inside the house, according to reports from the scene.

It was unclear whether anyone was living at the property. There was also no word on whether the pickup driver required or declined further medical attention after he was assessed by paramedics.
