Vehicle Goes Over The Side In Lake Mathews, 1 Person Injured

The crash occurred on Cajalco Road.

LAKE MATHEWS, CA — A car plunged into a deep ravine just west of Lake Mathews Monday, injuring the driver, who was able to extricate himself from the wreckage.

The crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. on Cajalco Road, just east of Eagle Canyon Road, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and discovered a sedan 350 feet down a hillside.

The motorist was able to get out of the car and walk back up to Cajalco as firefighters prepared to deploy for a cut-and-rescue operation, according to reports from the scene.

The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of unspecified minor injuries.

Cajalco remained open going both east- and westbound.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
