Woman Accused Of Stabbing Husband To Death In Corona

An argument between the two led to the violence, according to the Corona Police Department.

CORONA, CA — A Corona woman accused of stabbing her husband to death during an argument is due in court this week to face a murder charge.

Malena Vanae Johnson, 33, is scheduled to appear at the Riverside Hall of Justice on Wednesday.

According to the Corona Police Department, on Aug. 1, officers were called to the 1200 block of W. Eighth Street. Once on scene, they found a man suffering from "significant" stab wounds to the abdomen.

The victim was identified as Johnson's husband, 42-year-old Michael Hughes. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers interviewed family members and determined Hughes was stabbed during an argument with his wife, police said.

Johnson remained at the scene and officers detained her without incident, according to police.

It's unclear what prompted the argument.

Johnson is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside without bail. In addition to the felony murder charge, she is being held on suspicion of several misdemeanor charges, including driving drunk on a suspended license.
