$2 Million Lottery Ticket Sold at Ray's Market In Casa de Oro

The market only began selling lottery tickets last month.

There is a new millionaire in Rancho San Diego, after a winning scratch-off ticket worth $2 million was purchased at on Campo Road, California Lottery announced on Tuesday.

The winner wished to remain anonymous, but the market's owner, Raymond Kassawa, said the winner is a regular customer.

"It's well-deserved. They are a great family," said Kassawa.

The "Set for Life" game pays out $100,000 annually over 20 years. According to California Lottery policies, the market will not receive a percentage of the winnings, since it was a scratch ticket.

"Businesses only get something back on Super Lotto and Mega Millions tickets," said Kassawa. "Even then, it's only one-half of 1 percent, so it's not a big revenue for us."

Kassawa said that the winning ticket was sold on Tuesday, Aug. 22. He later received a call from the California Lottery that said a large winning ticket had been sold at his store, since they monitor where scratchers are sold, not redeemed.

The store only began selling lottery tickets last month, according to Kassab, as a way to increase traffic.

"We've been wanting to do it for a long time, but you have to have a certain quota of tickets sold," he said. "If you don't meet your numbers, they take your machines away. It's really been a blessing for us."

Kassawa said that after the word spread that someone won, the Set For Life tickets sold out almost immediately.

So could lightning strike twice? Kassawa thinks so.

"Oh yeah, it's very possible," he said. "People are already quoting us as 'the lucky store.' Some liquor stores close to here have had multiple million-dollar winners within the same year. We're excited, man."
