3 Wounded in El Cerrito Drive-By Shooting: Police

A drive-by shooting in El Cerrito Wednesday evening left three people hospitalized, including a security guard.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A drive-by shooting in El Cerrito Wednesday evening left three people hospitalized, including a security guard.

Police responded at 8:28 p.m. to the 5400 block of University Avenue where they learned a group of male pedestrians had been arguing with people inside a black vehicle, said San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims.

The driver drove away recklessly and the pedestrians ran to a nearby business to get help. The driver went by the business and someone inside the car fired several rounds at the pedestrians, hitting and wounding two of them and a security guard, Heims said.

The victims were taken to a hospital with non-threatening injuries. The driver drove away from the scene.

San Diego Police Department Gang Unit detectives are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call 619- 531-2847 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
