Emergency Preparedness Fair, Night Out Against Crime and Porter Hall
What you need to know in La Mesa today.

1. Emergency Preparedness Fair- 6 p.m. Tuesday at Grossmont Center.
Are you prepared to handle a disaster? La Mesa Police officers and Heartland fire fighters will be available to interact with the participants and tour emergency vehicles.
2. National Night Out Against Crime- 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, Rec Field, 6845 University Avenue.
FREE Interactive Community Awareness Fair in celebration of National Night Out. The community is invited to The Kroc Center for an evening of excitement complete with a live jaws of life demonstration, interactive kid’s police and fire academy, self defense demonstration, live entertainment, free hot dogs, giveaways, fingerprinting, games, community booths and more.
3. Blood Pressure Screenings- 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grossmont Hospital Senior Resource Center, 9000 Wakarusa St.
Have your blood pressure checked by our registered nurses for free. Public welcome, no appointment necessary.
4. International Friendship Day

5. La Mesa Historical Landmarks- Porter Hall, 4910 Memorial Dr.
Porter Hall is a quant series of linked buildings with a style reminiscent of a pagoda, prominently viewable from University Avenue at MacArthur Park. Owned by the city, it is currently inhabited by the Foothills Art Association and used to exhibit the group's artwork. Each month a new exhibit is displayed for guests and the public is free to view the gallery Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here to read more about the history of the buildings.
