A Fruitful Trip To the Market

R&L Farms offers a wide variety of fresh fruits to help you get your daily dose.

Walking past the stand of fruits for R&L Farms at the Spring Valley Farmers Market, one thing strikes you before anything else: the colors.

Bright oranges, reds, yellows, greens, all in varying shades excite the eye, and the samples of fruit excite the pallet.

The Kingsburg, CA farm (in Fresno County) offers an incredibly diverse array of seasonal fruits. The ones that are particularly popular this time of year are the peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots.

But R&L (which also operates a smaller farm in Fallbrook) also features, dark bing cherries, blood oranges, tangelos, navel oranges, Valencia oranges, Haas avocados, grapefruits, lemons, and limes.

All of the fruit is certified organic.

Other seasonal fruits, some of which will be available in a 2-3 months, include four kinds of grapes, cherimoya, pomegranates, kumquats, and figs.

In addition, R&L offers "vegetarian eggs" produced by chickens whih are fed a special diet of grains and vegetable products.

R&L also participates in Farmers Markets in Santee, Escondido, Carlsbad, North Park, Chula Vista and Rancho Bernardo. But if you visit them at the Spring Valley Market, Abel (one of the employees) will hook you up and have you eating fresh fruit in no time.
