Abortion Rights Activists Rally Tuesday In East San Diego County
Abortion rights advocates in San Diego County plan to rally on Tuesday and this weekend against new restrictive abortion legislation.
SAN DIEGO COUNTY -- Abortion rights advocates in San Diego County plan to rally in Spring Valley and a handful of other cities at noon Tuesday and this weekend against a new wave of restrictive abortion legislation across the country.
The "Stop the Bans" rallies are being held at regional, state and federal government buildings in San Diego County in response to new anti-abortion legislation passed or under consideration in recent weeks in such states as Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and North Dakota.
"We will show up to speak out and fight back against this unconstitutional attempt to gut Roe (v. Wade) and punish women," a statement on the organizers' website reads. "Politicians shouldn't be making decisions best left to women, their families and their doctors."
In San Diego County, marchers plan to gather at noon at San Diego's Waterfront Park, in Spring Valley and Escondido. A fourth rally, hosted by Poway Huddle, was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Poway. A related event is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25 at the San Diego County Administration Building in San Diego.
