Cathedral's Niksha Federico led all scorers with 19 points, and paced the South team, which had a balanced attack and six players in double-figures.

In a game of runs, it was the South team that had the most decisive one, as they beat the North in the Boys High School All-Star Game 108-101 on Friday at Horizon High School.

Mount Miguel's Izzy Wagner had 13 points for the South. East County Sports Co-Player of the Year Andre Nikkita of El Cajon Valley had 16. Monte Vista's Jahzdion Taylor was scoreless.

Both teams started the game cold, but the South got some easy points off turnovers and jumped out to an 18-11 game with 13 minutes left in the first. They kept their lead and extended it, going ahead 61-48 at halftime.

But in the second half, the South cooled off considerably. Sloppy play, combined with not being able to find a way to score consistently, allowed the North to come back, and in only seven minutes, the cut the deficit to three, at 72-69.

But the South picked up their pressure once again, and forced the North into turnovers, which led to breakaway layups. Over the next six minutes, the South's 18-10 run made it 90-79, and they held on for the 108-101 win.

Federico was named MVP for the South.

Grant Corsi of Santa Fe Christian led the North with 15 points. Horizon's Markel Byrd, playing in his home gym, scored 12 and won the North MVP.
