Broom Handle Used in Assault at Timberline Unit; Man Being Sought
La Mesa police said officers responded to a disturbance early Thursday morning on Waite Drive.

La Mesa police Thursday were searching for an adult male suspected of using a broken broom handle to assault another person at the Timberline Apartments on Waite Drive in south La Mesa.
According to police Lt. Matt Nicholass, a transfer call from the county Sheriff’s Department led to La Mesa police responding at 2:45 a.m. to a reported disturbance at 7111 Waite, the complex west of Massachusetts Avenue.
“La Mesa officers arrived and determined a subject needed medical attention and an assault with a deadly weapon had taken place,” Nicholass said.
Nicholass wouldn’t disclose the victim’s age and sex—or relationship, if any, to the attacker—but said the male assailant left on foot.
“The suspect was not located,” he said. But the investigation continues.
Nicholass said he was unsure of the extent of injuries to the victim but confirmed the person was transported to a local hospital.
