Cleaning Up La Mesa, a Spring Valley Shooting, and 'HeART' Tix Available

Authorities are still trying to determine if charges will be filed against an elderly Spring Valley man, who was arrested last week in connection with the fatal shooting of his stepson.

The latest crime statistics released by SANDAG shows increased violent crime in Spring Valley for the first half of 2012, compared to the same time last year. However, Spring Valley has one of the lowest FBI crime index rates in all of San Diego County, trailing only Poway and 4S Ranch.

With football starting again, it's fitting that there is news regarding one of the San Diego Chargers legendary players, Junior Seau. In one story, a jury denied awarding damages to Moose Lea, who was claiming that he was injured in 2010, when Seau accidentally drove off a cliff in Carlsbad after falling asleep at the wheel.

Seau's estate also took a more than $1M loss on his Oceanside home, which was sold in late August. The 2,200-square-foot home, which sold for $1.975M, was the scene of in May.

A preliminary hearing for Chrystina Delrosario has been postponed until Oct. 2. Delrosario, a teachers' aide at Reflections School in La Mesa, stands accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of her students, a 15-year-old boy.

The City of La Mesa helped clean up the county's storm drains and waterways, as eight ashcans for used cigarette butts were installed at various locations near and on La Mesa Boulevard. It is estimated that the cans will help keep 7,000 butts off of the street per month.
