Much has already been written about the proposed La Mesa Village PBID. The latest chapter in the ongoing saga could mean the end of the proposal, as it is currently constructed. Last Tuesday, the La Mesa city council approved a motion that it would not sign the petition until more public support could be garnered by the plan's proponents.
It is a similar ruling to one in April, however, there are definitive mandates that now have to be reached: 50 percent plus one of the proposed property owners must sign the petition before the council will take any action. There is no deadline on the PBID steering committee to get these signatures.

In school news, a new executive director has been selected at Helix Charter High School, to take over for Rani Goyal, who mysteriously resigned just days before graduation. Former assistant principal Mike Lewis will take over.
Grossmont once again reached into a neighboring community to pluck away a head coach from a rival high school. Chad Williams, who coached the Monte Vista High baseball team for two years, will leave the Spring Valley school to take the same position with the Foothillers. He will take over for Jim Earley, who resigned in June. Earlier this year, Grossmont found its new football coach from Spring Valley as well, as they hired away Tom Karlo from Mount Miguel High.
