An institution in Escondido, Belen Artisan Bakers are serving up more than 12 different varieties of fresh bread at the farmers market.

For more than 30 years, Belen Artisan Bakers has been the place to go for all things bread in Escondido.

Fortunately, for patrons of the Spring Valley Farmers Market, they don't have to make the long drive to enjoy the unique style European breads, cookies and pastries.

Owned by Jose Duran, Belen Artisan Bakers has been a vendor at the market since its opening in March. They feature more than 12 different kinds of breads, in addition to dessert favorites like biscotti, chocalate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, homemade granola and scones.

Choosing which bread to get takes you across a mini tour of Europe. The artisans offer French baguettes, jalapeno cheddar, levain (a type of sour dough), cheddar, multigrain, fig and anise, sunflower flax, kalamata olive, challa bread, whole wheat, cranberry walnut, peasant loaf, 50/50 (whish is half flour and half whole wheat), banana bread, apple bread, ciabatta rolls, and brioche.
