Helix Director’s Position on Community Garden Was Misrepresented in Story
Jennifer Osborn: "There is absolutely NO intention to 'bypass' the district. The intent is to work together with the city, the garden group, the district and Helix."

To the editor:
The story [posted here Jan. 24] regarding the community garden at Helix misrepresents Helix Executive Director Rani Goyal’s position on the matter. As written, it implies that the input of the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) board will not be considered and things will go ahead in spite of their wishes.
That could not be further from the truth. There is absolutely NO intention to “bypass” the district. The intent is to work together with the city, the garden group, the district and Helix to make sure that all parties are comfortable with the liability each takes on in association with this project.

Ms. Goyal has full understanding that the GUSHD board members have an obligation to those living within the district to make sound decisions and protect their interests.
Should they determine that the current arrangement is not satisfactory, then a different agreement will be sought until something with which they are comfortable is in place.

This is a very important community project, and I’m sure all parties are interested in finding a resolution that meets everyone’s needs.
Thank you,
