La Mesa Police Arrest Teen Vehicle Burglary Suspect

Rakeem Morehead, 19, of La Mesa, was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail. He is being held on $25,000 bail and is charged with one count of vehicle burglary.

La Mesa police say they have arrested a suspect in a vehicle burglary, which occurred Friday at approximately 11 a.m. in the Office Depot parking lot, 8481 Fletcher Parkway.

Rakeem Morehead, 19, of La Mesa, was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail. He is being held $25,000 and is being charged with one count of vehicle burglary.

According to police, a citizen called 911 to report a vehicle burglary in progress at 11:03 a.m. The citizen was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and police units were dispatched immediately.

As officers were responding, the suspect realized that he was being watched and fled the scene eastbound towards the Grossmont Trolley Station on foot, police said.

Motorcycle Officer Hans Warren was in the area and located the suspect near the trolley station. Officer Warren detained the suspect without incident as he was attempting to conceal property in some bushes. Property stolen from the vehicle was recovered.

An arraignment for Morehead is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14.
