Man Carjacked by Gunman Near Parks Ave. After Taking Out the Trash

The daytime robbery took place behind an apartment building on Parks Avenue. Police are searching for a red 2005 Hyundai Elantra.

A 67-year-old man was carjacked at gunpoint late Sunday morning after he drove to the rear of an apartment complex to take out the trash, according to La Mesa police.

The man was approached by the suspect around 11 a.m. after he threw away a load of garbage into a bin behind apartments in the 4800 block of Parks Avenue, according to police. The suspect pointed a handgun at the man and demanded he turn over his belongings, according to police. The man gave the suspect his wallet, according to a report.

After taking the wallet, the suspect got into the vehicle, which was still running, and fled northbound on Williamsburg Lane toward El Cajon Boulevard. The victim was not injured, according to police.

The was described by police as a red 2005 Hyundai Elantra, California license plate 5YDA406

The suspect was described as black male, 18-19 years old, 5 feet 7 inches-5 feet 8 inches tall, 150-170 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
