Manganista Kicks off Launch Party for Vinyl Album at Pete’s Place in Village
Saturday night event, one of several in city, features reunion of La Mesa musicians with Picture Head.
Pete’s Place was packed. With bouncer Brandon keeping the bar in check, friends of the band Manganista saw the La Mesa-based group perform Saturday night for the first time in three years. That was the kickoff set for a series as part of a record release party for a compilation album called Picture Head.
Matt Rhea, a Grossmont High School student of the early 1990s who operates Quasi Recordings, put together the event and sold vinyl records while also performing on drums and other instruments Saturday night in The Village hotspot east of Por Favor Mexican restaurant.
A mile west on University Avenue, the Riviera Supper Club hosted what it called Mods vs. Rockers, an outdoor musical event, where the host posted on Facebook: “A huge thanks to La Mesa for granting us the permits to host an event like this, and lastly to all of our neighbors who are impacted in any way during this event. Greatly appreciated!”
