Sunrise Rotary Invites Nominations for Peacemaker Award in World Understanding Month

The month of February is special in the Rotary calendar because it not only designates World Understanding Month but also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary on 23 February 1905, now designated World Understanding and Peace Day.

In designating World Understanding Month, the Rotary International board asks all Rotary clubs to plan programs for their weekly meetings and undertake special activities to emphasize understanding and good will as essential for world peace.

La Mesa Sunrise Rotary is seeking a community peacemaker to honor as part of its celebration. It will also have speakers on topics of world understanding and peace throughout the month.
 
The Peacemaker Award is designed to honor members of the community (Rotarians eligible) who have made a significant difference in promoting tolerance, understanding, conflict resolution and peace.

The winning nominee will be selected based on demonstrated commitment to the foregoing and actions taken to bring about the change referred to in Rotary’s mission statement: help build good will and peace in the world. Local and/or global accomplishments qualify.

This is one of the ways the community can join Rotary in its quest to promote good will, understanding and peace among peoples of the world.
