Question of the Day: Can La Mesa at 100 Retain Its Small-Town Vibe?

In a pre-centennial look at La Mesa, Steve Schmidt of U-T San Diego quotes Mayor Art Madrid, Helix grad Bill Walton, Park Station developer Andrew Kitzman and other locals on the subject of the city’s flavor:  Can it keep it?  Basketball legend Walton recalled: “It was the greatest thing in the world to grow up in La Mesa, but it hurt me in life … because I thought the whole world was like it is in La Mesa. That’s not the case.”
