Question of the Day: Was Public Safety Worth I-8 Backup for Abandoned Car?

Fear of danger from Pontiac Grand Prix with tinted windows led to freeway meltdown for hours.

The Highway Patrol and El Cajon police forced a major traffic tie-up on Interstate 8 eastbound and other roads and freeways during rush hour Tuesday night when they closed lanes while keeping watch on what turned out to be an abandoned car on the shoulder.  Was their vigilance worth the inconvenience to thousands of motorists?
