Rare Carjacking Here: Jamul Man Lost Truck at Knifepoint in Front of Ralphs
Toyota Tundra was recovered Saturday morning at Grossmont Center day after owner was assaulted.
In a rarity for La Mesa, a 23-year-old Jamul resident had his truck stolen at knifepoint Friday in front of the Ralphs on Grossmont Boulevard.
Police Lt. Dan Willis said Tuesday that La Mesa has recorded only seven carjackings in the past two years.
In the latest incident, Willis said, “The victim had just parked his truck in the parking lot in front of the Ralphs store to go shopping, got out and closed the door when he was pushed and confronted from behind by two suspects.”
The owner of the silver Toyota Tundra was punched in the face and received a bloody lip, Willis said.
The crime was reported at 11:25 a.m. at 8800 Grossmont Blvd., the grocery’s address, according to police incident reports.
Willis said the Tundra was recovered Saturday morning—parked illegally at nearby Grossmont Center.
The carjackers were both white men, 20-25, about 6 feet 1 and thin, Willis said via email.
“One suspect was wearing a short-sleeve T-shirt. … The other was wearing a black baseball cap, a black hoody, dark shirt and denim pants,” he said.
