Shout Out For Sauerkraut
Edible Alchemy features a variety of fermented foods, which aid in digestion.
One of the newest vendors at the Spring Valley Farmers Market is also one of the most unusual. Well, unusual that is, unless you like fermenting your own vegetables!
But that's just what Alan Conrad, owner of Edible Alchemy does.
Conrad offeres a variety of different fermented vegetables, but specializes in homemade sauerkraut.

"I kind of call myself a bacteria farmer," he jokes.
Conrad's products featured raw, organic vegetbles that have gone through an aging process of about 3-4 weeks. All of the enzymes are still present in his products, which help aid in digestion and increases vitamins and nutrient absorption.

"I have been making sauerkraut for years," Conrad said. "I read a book called Nourishing Traditions and it really inspired me." He just recently completed the paperwork to be able to sell his products, and has gone to other farmers markets as well. His Edible Alchemy products are also featured at Grant's Marketplace in South Park.
Conrad offers a different varieties of sauerkraut, including: plain, East Indian (with curry), El Salvadoran Style (spicy), and red cabbage with beet and radish. He is also working on using lemongrass and Keifer limes to create a Thai Style flavor. Fermented radishes and ginger carrots are also available.
A small jar is $4, while a large 16 oz. jar is $8. In addition, he offeres Kambucha fermented teas for $2.50 each.
