Spring Street Doughnut Shop Robbed by Pair of Men with Knife, Handgun

Nobody hurt in crime early Thursday morning, where men escaped with money and were last seen running toward Echo Drive.

A man with a knife and a second robber with a handgun struck Sunny Donuts on Spring Street early Thursday, taking money from a cashier but leaving nobody hurt, police say.

La Mesa police responded to the robbery around 3:45 a.m., according to a news release.

The man with the knife jumped over the cashier counter and held a cashier at knifepoint, while the gunman moved to the kitchen and held a cook at gunpoint, police said.

After getting an undetermined amount of money, the men ran out of the store, police said, and were last seen running through the parking lot, towards the 8600 block of Echo Drive.

Police described the knife-wielder as white, in his early 20s and about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build. The gunman was described as white, about 25 and 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a medium build.
